Over the years, I've often received interesting and entertaining communications from many of you. Others were like me, I could never really understand computers and felt anything I might send would come up short of being worthy to distribute to my friends and associates. Finally, after all these years, I have something that will provide a useful purpose for each of you. Once you've gotten it understood, please reply below so I'll know that it served the purpose of comprehending computers.

I really feel a lot more competent now, and I'm sure you will too. This is a fairly simple graphical diagram of just how a computer works. It's amazing how an animated diagram like this can simplify how an operating system performs all of its various tasks. Once you grasp this simple example, you will be well on your way to understanding computers.

P.S. If you get stuck, just stay with it, and it will become clear.

WMKV Computer Talk

Good morning all! It's Christmas Eve, and I'm getting ready to start the day with family - since we are geographically seperated we visit in the Cincinnati area today - and then it's off to points south where all of the rest of the family will gather at Gramdma and Grandpa's house for the rest of the Holiday!

Of interest in technology - my daughter's laptop, a two year old Gateway - suffered a kind of a cascade hardware failure, first the DVD-RW, then the wireless nic, then the CTL and shift keys on both sides of the keyboard. Really strange issues for the computer to develop.

Anyway - since she is a college student - when we purchased the laptop we also purchased a 3 year extended on-site service warranty. A 60 minute phone call to Gateway tech support has resulted in a service call scheduled for before she returns to school - and a promised installation of a new DVD-RW, RAM, NIC, and motherboard. Call it a new computer. Well worth the investiment on the warranty - and - I couldn't be more happy with the service she recieved. Call this one a shameless plug for the company - but good service is worth passing along!

Other than that - it's time to start the day. But I wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and nothing but the best for 2K7! May you know nothing but Joy and Good Things!

All for now - I'll see ya'll on the air next year!

A guy in Glendale (only a stone's throw from our new WMKV-FM studios) wants to put a For Sale sign on his 1970 Merc Cougar - and the village fathers won't let him. Something about luring onlookers into the roadway where they might be struck by a car...

Anyway, he claims a First Amendment right to advertise the car in a reasonable manner, and he's taking Glendale to task to protect his freedom of speech. http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/ is backing him in the court case.

The website has a survey quiz that is worth your inspection and consideration.

Just in time for winter it's my new favorite waste-of-time website. I strongly caution you not to view this website if you are at work, need to be productive today, or don't have a few hours to kill.

Go to - http://www.linerider.com - to get started.

Then cruise over to - http://www.linerider.org - to see what people who have way more time and creativity than you can do with it.

Have fun and don't forget to wear a scarf!

I just received an e-mail "revealing a secret code" you can use if you're ever forced to withdraw from an ATM during a robbery. Being of the skeptical sort, I checked the story out at snopes.com - and you can too: http://www.snopes.com/business/bank/pinalert.asp

What further amused me about the e-mail I received was that it referred to a "PIN number" and "ATM machine". I was expecting it to say something about a "one-year anniversary".
